AFTER ASHLEY - December 11th

I am very pleased to announce that I will be playing the role of “David” in a scene from AFTER ASHLEY by Gina Gionfriddo.

Shani Murfin will be directing. This is a project for her directing class taught by Wendy McClellan.

I will post more about the time when I get that information. But it will be down on the Lower East Side.

The Abrons Art Center at 466 Grand Street (Off the Essex or Grand stop from the B, D, F, or V lines). It’s not as far away as you may think… :)

The great thing for me is that this role is usually played by a man in his 50’s, so I am completely cast against type. This is going to put a fun spin on the story. The scene is from Act 2 between Justin, Alden, Julie and myself (David).

Here is Wendy’s bio:

WENDY MC CLELLAN has spent the last ten years working as a director and staff member in the American regional theatre, with a majority of her career spent in the development of new American plays. She has held positions at Great Lakes Theatre Festival, Mark Taper Forum, A.S.K. Theater Projects and Actors Theatre of Louisville. She was also the Artistic Director of Oasis Theatre Company, the first company to bring Anne Bogart and the SITI Company to LA. She is currently a freelance director based in New York City. Her directing credits include: Washington, D.C.: world premieres of Jennifer Maisel’s Birds (Rorschach Theatre) and Laurie Brooks’ Brave No World (The Kennedy Center). Actors Theatre of Louisville: world premieres of Neon Mirage (2006 Humana Festival, New York International Fringe Festival), Uncle Sam’s Satiric Spectacular (2005 Humana Festival, New York International Fringe Festival), Goody Fucking Two Shoes (2005 Humana Festival), Fast and Loose (2004 Humana Festival), Trepidation Nation (2003 Humana Festival), as well as A Christmas Carol, Underneath the Lintel, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Balm in Gilead and Mad Forest. Los Angeles credits include world premieres of Antigone. Tertiary. Sexxx. (2001 LA Weekly Award Nominee Best Comedy Direction); Steel: John Henry & the Shaker (2002 Ovation Award Nominee Best New Musical); Jennifer Maisel’s Impenetrable; and Antonio Sacre’s Up to the Sky (also PS 122, New York). In 2006, she and long-time collaborator Jennifer Maisel were awarded the New York Coalition for Women in the Arts and Media’s Collaboration Award. Current projects include Project Pearl: Women in Combat/Women on the Home Front, a community dialogue-based project about American women and patriotism.
